Ruth Ellen Brosseau is the house leader for the New Democratic Party in the Canadian federal parliament. She won an unexpected victory in the electorate of Berthier—Maskinongé in Quebec in 2011. Brosseau is a prominent advocate on issues that do not personally affect most MPs, such as policy towards single mothers and on student loans. She won re-election with an increased margin in 2015 and subsequently became the NDP’s agriculture spokesperson. – 27
